From: Citrus Springs Memorial Library
Everyone is invited to a very unusual watercolor exhibit at the Citrus Springs Memorial Library, courtesy of Pat Sistrand and her talented student artists. The south wall of the library’s west wing has been dedicated to their Way of the Cross paintings, and they are outstandingly beautiful. The library is located at 1826 W. Country Club Blvd. in Citrus Springs.
Several months ago Pat’s pastor at the First United Methodist church in Dunnellon — where the artists regularly meet for classes — challenged the class to do representative paintings based on the Stations of the Cross. The artists’ paintings were then displayed around the church during Holy Week. Later they were shown in the church administrative building for all to view.
Ina Murdock’s “Jesus Promises” shows Jesus promising Paradise to the two thieves who were crucified with him in a picture-frame motif in soft, gentle colors.
Ina Murdocik’s “Jesus Dies”- This different concept shows the punctured and bloody hands of Jesus in simple tan tones, very beautiful.
Barbara Albrecht’s “Jesus is Crucified “ is so striking in its simplicity, showing 3 tiny white crosses amid several hills, with menacing dark clouds almost completely covering the sky.
B.J. Mahaffey’s “Jesus Takes Up the Cross”- A crowned Jesus carries His cross amid flashes of gold, brown, and turquoise. It is so beautiful!
Pat Kelly Sistrand’s “Jesus Taken from the Cross” has a picture-frame motif against a myriad of designs and colors and shows Mary taking her Son from the cross.
Ruth B. Todd’s “Crown of Thorns”- Simplicity reigns supreme: a simple crown of thorns accentuated with some green leaves and tiny red flowers.
Nancy Eaton’s “In the Garden”- A beautiful shaft of light through a mass of trees, flowers, and a couple of pretty stone columns depicts this heavenly garden.
Dolores Woodson’s “Betrayal”- In beautiful tones of white, yellow, and light orange, Jesus is kissed by Judas with a crowd of angry men in the background.
The north wall is covered with a myriad of beautiful paintings with flowers as the theme, including amaryllis, orchids, wisteria, pink cyclamen, and many others. Amid these beautiful floral paintings don’t miss the outstanding butterfly “Wings of Dreams” by Maureen Cotnoir.
Other artists who contributed to this beautiful display at the library are Nancy Eaton, Jean O’Sullivan, Gloria Darley, Maureen Cotnoir, Delora Scanlon, Penny Monsma, and Lorna Eastman.
